Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows with Energy Injection: Homogeneous versus Wind External Media
نویسنده
چکیده
Assuming an adiabatic evolution of a gamma-ray burst (hereafter GRB) fireball interacting with an external medium, we calculate the hydrodynamics of the fireball with energy injection from a strongly magnetic millisecond pulsar through magnetic dipole radiation, and we obtain the light curve of the optical afterglow from the fireball by synchrotron radiation. Results are given both for a homogeneous external medium and for a wind ejected by GRB progenitor. Our calculations are also available in both ultra-relativistic and non-relativistic phases. Furthermore, the observed R-band light curve of GRB000301C can be well fitted in our model, which might provide a probe of the properties of GRB progenitors.

Analytic Light-curves of Gamma-ray Burst Afterglows: Homogeneous versus Wind External Media
Assuming an adiabatic evolution of a Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) remnant interacting with an external medium, we calculate the injection, cooling, and absorption break frequencies, and the afterglow flux for plausible orderings of the break and observing frequencies. The analytical calculations are restricted to a relativistic remnant and, in the case of collimated ejecta, to the phase where there is...

We extend our calculation of physical parameters of GRB afterglows through modelling of their broadband emission to three other cases: 980519, 000926, and 010222. Together with 990123, 990510, 991208, 991216, and 000301c, there are eight afterglows whose optical and radio emission allow determination of the burst collimation. The jet energies (after the GRB phase) obtained for this sample of ei...
متن کاملEffects of Environment and Energy Injection on Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows
There is growing evidence that some long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) arise from the core collapse of massive stars, and thus it is inevitable that the environments of these GRBs are preburst stellar winds or dense media. We studied, for the first time, the wind model for afterglows based on the Blandford-McKee self-similar solution of a relativistic shock, and suggested that GRB 970616 is an intera...
متن کاملTheoretical Implications of the Gamma-Ray Burst – Supernova Connection
Although observations of circumstellar shock interactions around supernovae are generally consistent with a ρ ∝ r wind surrounding the progenitor star, this is not true for GRB (gamma-ray burst) afterglows. However, GRB 991208 and GRB 000301C may be consistent with wind interaction if the injection particle spectrum is a broken power law. Circumstellar dust echos can place constraints on supern...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Burst Afterglows as Probes of Environment and Blastwave Physics II: the Distribution of p and Structure of the Circumburst Medium
We constrain blastwave parameters and the circumburst media of a subsample of BeppoSAX Gamma-Ray Bursts. For this sample we derive the values of the injected electron energy distribution index, p, and the density structure index of the circumburst medium, k, from simultaneous spectral fits to their X-ray, optical and nIR afterglow data. The spectral fits have been done in count space and includ...
